How to get testimonials from clients
The truth is that most people will be more likely to believe what other people say about you than what you say about yourself. It’s just human nature. This is why client and customer testimonials are such an important part of marketing your business. If people can see great testimonials about your company or website then they will be much more likely to trust you and ultimately buy from you. Getting these testimonials however is something that many people seem to struggle with. So – here’s our handy guide on how to get testimonials from clients.
What makes a great testimonial
Not all testimonials are created equal. Anyone who wants to know how to get testimonials from clients should bear a couple of things in mind…
One of the most important things to bear in mind is that a testimonial should ideally be specific to what you are offering. So, if somebody said…
“I was so pleased with the website that you produced for me. I love that you took so much time and effort to get to know my business and really understand what it is that my customers are looking for. I really wanted something fun and lively to match my brand – and that’s exactly what you’ve given me”
…then that would be much better than a generic testimonial such as:
“I was very pleased with your service and the end result that you delivered. Thanks!”
Secondly, those who want to know how to get testimonials from clients need to remember that it is important to make it as easy as possible for somebody to actually give you a testimonial. Consider following up with your clients to ask for one and/or having a dedicated section on your website where people can leave you a review. In addition, once you have a few testimonials then it will usually be much easier to persuade other people to give you a review too.
One of the most common types of testimonial is a written testimonial. This is simply a paragraph or two about their experience of your company or website, with a few details about what it was that they bought and why they liked it so much. As we have already mentioned, the more detailed that this is, the better. At the same time it should be ‘to the point’ and not ‘waffle on’ too much. Nobody wants to read an essay, so encourage people to keep testimonials relatively short.
Video testimonials are usually much more effective than written testimonials because people can see a real person talking about your product or service. It is easier to connect with someone on video than it is by reading what they have written.
One problem with video testimonials however is that they are often much harder to get. People have got to actually go to the trouble of recording a video for you, and it can be hard for them to know what to talk about. As mentioned previously, it is usually easier to get testimonials once a few other people have already given you one. Why not consider using our video testimonial service and then use them to attract your clients to record their own?
